About These VRML Pages...These pages were created by Jonathan Merritt (credits: VRML scripting, JavaScript, most HTML, concept), and AJ Dyka (credits: walking HTML reference, ideas). Their main purpose is to serve as a repository for geometric models of the microstructure of materials.Ideally, they will become a good reference for students of Materials Engineering, and we are hoping to obtain an endorsement for their use as a resource for students taking 436-222 Engineering Design and Materials 1B at Melbourne University. The use of rendered 3D models can be a powerful aid to the understanding of ideas behind material structure. We think that VRML provides a good medium for this, since it is now an ISO standard, and is platform independent. Also, since it is generally implemented using a backbone of OpenGL code, many systems have features to speed up the display of these models. Ideally, this archive will grow to encompass models of many different kinds of materials. With time...
